In Kevin Davis's analytical personal research paper, "Does Going to College Mean Becoming Someone New?" (2019), Mr. Davis claims that in order to succeed in College, one must be able to relate and adapt to their educational community/enviroment in order to satisfy the wants and needs of their peers and instructors. Mr. Davis supports and develops his claim by adding in his personal experience, researching from books, and interviews. Mr. Davis's purpose for writing this essay is to inform people that when you go to college, you have to change how you think and meet the standards for that course/group. The audience Mr Davis intended would be future and returning college students because they have to conform and think about what their fellow peer/s and instructor/s want and about their mind up to different ideas and views.

While reading Mr Davis's paper I was intrigued the more I read because I could relate to the topic. I remember countless times where I had to write a paper a certain way and/or had strict guidelines that I had to meet for a paper. In a way, this paper relates to my personal experience because I've had to conform and write to a topic that I wasn't familiar with. It bugged me and I was uncomfortable and anxious because I thought I would receive a bad grade. When you learn to conform you learn to think and act like others but remain yourself at the end of the day.

Mr. Davis claims that going to college forces one to conform and take on different views opposed to theirs. Throughout his essay, Mr. Davis includes both his experience, and he researches and takes notes of the experience of others as well. In his essay, Mr. Davis says, "First, we have to learn to put down words and ideas in community acceptable ways.  We have to internalize and apply the form limitations of the discourse community;  our writing has to look like writing in the community is supposed to look" (Davis). This quote is important because it reinforces the fact that one must conform with their community/enviroment and accept the differing views. While giving some personal relation, Mr. Davis also interviews others going through the conforming process, the essay states, "Charlotte, too, was willing to make the personal commitment that  membership in the social work community required. As she put it, “The course is  really making a difference in my thoughts; I had not recognized that I was biased in  my way of thinking” (Davis). This quote relates to the message of the essay because it shows us how one can both conform and begin to compare/contrast their views based on the views of their certain community. One must learn to conform and accept differing views and ideals, while remaining themselves.
